Built because we were tired of uploading private files to cloud services
DocsBee started as a side project. Every PDF tool we tried either uploaded files to a server, locked features behind a subscription, or bombarded us with ads. So we built our own.
What we set out to do
We wanted a PDF toolkit that worked like a desktop app but ran in any browser tab — no installs, no accounts, no waiting on a server queue. That meant doing all the processing locally, using modern web technology like WebAssembly and the pdf-lib library.
The result is 22 PDF tools that work entirely in your browser. When you upload a file, it never actually leaves your machine. It's read into browser memory, processed, and handed back to you. Nothing goes over the wire.
Who it's for
Anyone who works with PDFs and doesn't want to pay for the privilege of doing basic things. Students, freelancers, lawyers, teachers — we've heard from all of them. The tools that matter most (compress, merge, sign, redact) are the ones that tend to be paywalled everywhere else.
What we don't do
We don't store your files. We don't track which documents you open. We don't require an email address. The only analytics on the site are aggregate page views — we can see that people are using the compress tool a lot, but we can't see what you're compressing.
