What this tool does
Edit PDF lets you write on top of a PDF page. You can add text, draw with a pen, mark an area with the highlighter, add shapes and lines, place a status stamp, or insert a picture such as a logo.
Everything you add sits on top of the page. The text that was already in the PDF does not change. If you need to fix a typo in the original text, this tool cannot rewrite it. You can cover it with a white shape and write new text above it, but the old text is still inside the file.
You see the page as a large preview, with small page pictures on the left and style options on the right. The options change with the tool you pick, such as font, color, opacity and line width.
How to use it
- Select Choose File, or drop a PDF on the page. The editor opens.
- Click a page picture on the left to go to that page. Use the - and + buttons or Fit at the top to change the zoom.
- Pick a tool from the bar above the page: Select, Add Text, Pen, Highlight, Shape, Line, Stamp or Image.
- For text, click where it should start, type, then select Done or press Enter. Use Shift and Enter for a new line. For the other tools, click or drag on the page.
- Use the right side to set the look. Choose a font, size, color, opacity, stroke width or shape fill. To change an item you already added, pick Select, click the item, then change its options.
- Made a mistake? Use the undo arrow at the top, or press Ctrl and Z. The Clear Page Annotations button next to it clears every mark on the current page. Press Delete to remove the selected item.
- Select Export PDF, then Download PDF. Edit Another File starts again.
Privacy
The editing and the export happen in your browser. Your PDF and your pictures are not sent to DocsBee. Only the normal web server record of your visit, such as your IP address, may exist on our side.
Tips
- Use the Stamp tool for words such as APPROVED, PAID or DRAFT. Choose Custom Text to type your own. The rotation slider turns the stamp.
- The Image tool accepts PNG, JPG and WebP files. A new picture appears in the middle of the page. Drag it to where you want it.
- The highlighter is a thick, see-through pen stroke. It does not select the text under it, so draw it along the line you want to mark.
- A shape does not delete what is under it. To remove private information for good, use Redact PDF. To add a drawn signature, use Sign PDF.
- Text you add is also saved as hidden text, so search and copy usually work on it in a PDF viewer. This covers basic Latin letters. Other scripts, such as Sinhala or Tamil, look correct on the page but may not be searchable.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say "Could not open PDF file."?
The editor could not read the file. It may be damaged, or it may be protected with a password. If you know the password, open the file with Unlock PDF first, then bring the unlocked copy back here.
Why does it say "Please upload a valid PDF document."?
The editor only opens PDF files. Check that the file name ends in .pdf. To work with a photo, turn it into a PDF first with Image to PDF.
Why does it say "Failed to save edited PDF."?
The export did not finish. This can happen when the PDF is large and the device runs out of memory. Try a computer instead of a phone, or edit a smaller file. Your original file is never changed.
