What this tool does
Image to Text reads the words in a picture and gives them back as text you can copy. Use it for a photo of a page, a screenshot, a sign or a scanned letter. The picture can be a PNG, JPEG or WebP file.
The tool uses OCR, which means optical character recognition. It looks at the shapes in the image and guesses the letters. It reads English only. The result appears in a box that you cannot edit, so copy it into another program if you want to change it.
Do you have a PDF and not a picture? Use PDF OCR for scanned PDF files.
How to use it
- Select Select an image to OCR, or drop your image on the page.
- Wait while the screen says Initializing OCR Engine.... The first start can take a little longer because the reading engine has to load.
- To stop, select Cancel OCR. To pick a different picture, select Choose another image.
- When it finishes, the text appears under Extracted Text. A message above it says "Text extracted successfully."
- Select Copy to Clipboard to copy the text, or Download .txt to save it as a text file.
- The saved file has your image name with _text added at the end.
- Select Change Image to read another picture.
Privacy
The picture is read in your browser. It is not sent to DocsBee. Our host may keep a normal visit log, such as your IP address. It does not get your picture.
Tips
- Take the photo straight on, in good light. Shadows, folds and a tilted page make mistakes more likely.
- Larger, sharper pictures work better than small or blurry ones. Dark text on a plain light background is easiest to read.
- Always read the result once. Letters that look alike, such as O and 0 or l and 1, can be mixed up.
- Handwriting and very fancy fonts are often read badly.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say "No text found in this image."?
The tool could not read any words. The picture may be too small, too blurry or too dark. It may also have no text, or text in a language other than English. Try a sharper image.
Why does it say "Could not extract text. Please select an image file."?
The file is not an image. Choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP file. For a PDF, use PDF OCR instead.
What if the tool says "OCR is taking too long."?
The reading engine made no progress for a while, so it was stopped. A box with a Retry button appears. Select Retry, or try a smaller image.
